Rutgers Law School Grad Nominated To Succeed Sheila Oliver In Major Role Gov. Phil Murphy has nominated Rutgers law school graduate Jacquelyn Suárez to step in as Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs after Sheila Y. Oliver’s unexpected death last month. Suárez, who currently serves as the Director of the DCA’s Division of Local Government Services, will serve as Acting Commissioner pending Senate confirmation and will be the first Hispanic Commissioner to hold the title. Calvin West, Trailblazing African-American Newark Politician, Dead At 87 Calvin West, the former Newark city council member and a fixture in city and statewide politics for decades, has died. He was 87 years old*, the New Jersey Globe reported Monday.  “We lost a great leader today with the passing of Calvin West.
