A nonprofit thrift store in Atlantic County is about to reopen more than three months after it was significantly damaged in an arson fire. The Goodwill store on Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township will hold a grand reopening on Thursday, May 2. An Atlantic County man was killed when his car crashed after driving through a stop sign, authorities said. Erick Barahona-Pinedo, 32, of Hammonton, died in the crash on Friday, Apr. 19, town police Chief Kevin Friel said in a news release. An Atlantic County teen was accused of driving drunk, speeding through stop signs, and crashing into the side of a business, authorities said. The 17-year-old from Hammonton was arrested on Tuesday, Apr. 2, the Brigantine Police Department said in a news release. The teen was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, eluding police, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and nine traffic summonses. A Camden County woman was killed and five other people were injured in a crash on a busy road in western Atlantic County, authorities said. Karina Castillo, 29, of Pine Hill, was killed in the crash on Black Horse Pike near High Bank Road on Wednesday, Apr. 3, the Township of Hamilton Police Department said in a news release. More than 50 people were arrested after police broke up a large cockfighting ring in Atlantic County, authorities said. Galloway Township police executed a search warrant at a home on the 300 block of South Bremen Avenue on Saturday, Mar. 9, the department said in a news release. Police in an Atlantic County town are investigating cases of what's called "check washing," authorities said. Hammonton Police and the U.S. Postal Inspectors are investigating financial crimes after mail and checks were removed from a mailbox outside the town's post office, the police department said in a Facebook post on Thursday, Feb. 29. A nonprofit thrift store in Egg Harbor Township is recovering after it lost all of its merchandise in a fire on Monday, Jan. 15. Monroe Smith, 67, of Glenside, PA, was the pilot, and Christopher Dougherty, 45, of Oreland, PA, was the photographer, according to the news station. South Jersey Man Killed In Collision With Tractor-Trailer: Police
A 72-year-old man from South Jersey was killed in a collision with a tractor-trailer, authorities said. John Amendolia Jr. of Hammonton died in the crash at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, according to Winslow Township police. The crash occurred at the intersection of South Egg Harbor Road and Old Forks Road, police said. Amendolia was taken to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation and there are no charges at this time.

The National Weather Service has released rainfall totals from the weekend storm. Between Sunday morning, Dec. 10 and Monday morning, Dec. 11, the area that got the most amount of rain was Deerfield with 4.45 inches, then Flemington/Hopewell, with 4.29 inches. Tolls on the Atlantic City Expressway are going up next year, officials said on Thursday, Nov. 17. Starting Jan. 1, 2023, cash tolls on the 44-mile Expressway’s Egg Harbor and Route 50 toll plazas will increase from $4.40 to $4.55 for a passenger vehicle. Expressway tolls are going up by 3% from year to year, said Kimberly Testa, a spokeswoman with the South Jersey Transportation Authority. A massive wildfire that destroyed 13,500 acres in New Jersey's largest forest is 95 percent contained, authorities said. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service released the latest update on Wednesday, June 22. The fire at Wharton State Forest extended to the townships of Washington, Shamong, Hammonton and Mullica.
