'Alarming' Surge In Homicides Prompts Atlantic City Police Union's Request For More Officers After four homicides in Atlantic City in the first week of 2024, the city's police union is calling for more officers to handle the "recent surge" in violence. Atlantic City Police Benevolent Association Local 24 posted a statement about the wave of killings on its Facebook page on Monday, Jan. 8.  The union said it's "deeply concerned" about the dramatic rise in the city's homicide rate compared to last year. NJ Man Accused Of Atlantic City Murder On New Year's Day A Cape May County man has been charged with stabbing another man to death in Atlantic City on New Year's Day. Atlantic County prosecutors said 30-year-old Vincent Oglesby of Woodbine was arrested in Pleasantville at around 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Oglesby is accused of killing 50-year-old Richard Vincent O'Brien III by stabbing him in the neck. Atlantic City police found O'Brien bleeding on the unit block of South California Avenue just after 6 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 1. Both deaths are considered suspicious, but are unrelated, they said. Vincent O’Brien III, 50, was found bleeding on the first block of South California Avenue at about 6:15 a.m., Monday, Jan. 1, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said. Two Teens Arrested With Handguns In Atlantic City: Police Two boys were arrested and two handguns were recovered in an Atlantic City arrest, authorities said. On Aug. 25, Detective Christopher Dodson received a tip that two juveniles on the Boardwalk were each in possession of a handgun. Dodson along with numerous other police officers and members of the Surveillance Center searched for and located the juveniles near Arkansas Avenue on the Boardwalk shortly after 10 p.m. As officers converged on the group, the two juveniles fled, police said. Man Wanted For Assaults Arrested In Atlantic City: Police A man wanted in two separate assaults was arrested with a handgun in Atlantic City, authorities said. On June 19, at 7:56 p.m., Officer Bayron Zelaya-Chavez observed a wanted male, Michael Rodriguez-Noyola, riding his bicycle at California and Pacific Avenues, police said. Zelaya-Chavez attempted to stop Rodriguez-Noyola when he fled on his bike on to the Boardwalk. Ultimately, Rodriguez-Noyola was taken into custody by responding officers near Sovereign and Pacific Avenues. He was found in possession of a loaded handgun, police said.
