The shooting happened on Jan. 23, in the 1400 block of Quincy Street NW when officers approached a man on the street and he opened fire, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

One officer from the 4th District was struck and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police Chief Robert Contee III said it did not appear that the officers returned fire. He also said they approached the man because he seemed "suspicious."

Police are still searching for the suspect.
