Woman, 22, Killed In Multi-Car Crash On Mass Turnpike In Central Mass ID'd: Police
A 22-year-old woman died after she was involved in a car crash in Worcester County that sprawled into a multi-car wreck on I-90, authorities said. Claudia Lukas, of Longmeadow, was killed on Wednesday, Nov. 15, in Grafton after her Subaru and a Kia Sorento collided on I-90 and hit a center guardrail, State Police said. The cars came to a stop in the center of the highway and were hit by an oncoming vehicle. The crashes caused a secondary wreck between two tractor-trailers and a box truck, authorities said. Former Central Mass Asst Principal, Harvard Grad Dies From Medical Emergency While On Vacation
A 74-year-old former Worcester Public Schools teacher and administrator died last week after suffering a medical emergency while on vacation in Mexico, a fundraiser said. John McFadden, of Paxton, died Friday, March 3, after being airlifted from Cancun to UMass Medical Center in Worcester, his family wrote in a GoFundMe. They wrote McFadden suffered a stroke and took a hard fall, causing a traumatic brain injury. He underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. Grandmother Killed In Western Mass Fire Was 'Most Caring, Nicest Person'
A family in Western Massachusetts is mourning the loss a 66-year-old woman who tragically lost her life in a fire earlier this week. Janelle Verchot said her grandmother Judy Verchot, who worked at UMass Amherst for years, "was the most caring, nicest person," in an interview with Daily Voice. Police are appealing to the public for help in finding the driver of an SUV who failed to stop after striking a student on the UMass Amherst campus. The incident took place around 10:15 p.m. Monday, March 21, as the 20-year-old man was walking in a crosswalk, said Laurie Loisel, spokeswoman for the Northwestern District Attorney's Office. A nationwide alert has been issued by the FBI for a college student from New England who mysteriously disappeared nearly two decades ago. Maura Murray was a 21-year-old UMass Amherst nursing student in 2004 when she went missing minutes after crashing her car off Route 112 in Haverhill, New Hampshire. A shelter in place was issued at UMass Amherst after an armed man was reportedly on campus. UMass Amherst is reporting an increase in racially motivated anti-Black incidents, according to a statement by the university’s vice-chancellor. In a message sent to students on Thursday, Sept. 23, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Diversity Officer Nefertiti Walker, said a racist email was sent to numerous Black-centered student groups on campus on Friday, Sept. 17. Several students at UMass Amherst have become the latest to serve suspensions for allegedly violating COVID-19 protocols at the height of the post-holiday surge in new infections.
