As Thefts Of 2 Car Brands Spikes, Springfield Police Urge Owners To Update Security Software After a series of viral social media videos earlier this year exposed a security flaw in models of Hyundai and Kia cars that make them easier to steal, there has been a spike in thefts of those vehicles.  The "Kia Boyz" trend showed how some cars could be easily hot-wired using a USB cable.  In Springfield, a dozen Hyundai and Kia cars were stolen in April, with an additional 13 break-ins, police said. Officers arrested three minors and charged them with the thefts. Police urge Hyundai and Kia owners to reach out to dealerships about a software update to patch the problem.  …

Ice Cream Truck Robbed, May Close For Good Following a motor vehicle break-in, a popular ice cream truck is cutting the season short and possibly closing for good. On Saturday, Oct. 17, Mary Neumeister owner of Nanas Ice Cream of Springfield said her ice cream truck had been broken into. Titus Crews, 40, of King Street, was arrested Monday, Sept. 14, at around 11 a.m. on Warriner Avenue in Springfield, police said. He is being charged with attempted murder and unarmed assault to rob, police said. Police had also issued a warrant for Crews’ arrest in connection with the assault.
