Friends of Baystate Academy Charter Public School in Springfield purchased the school’s building at 2001 Roosevelt Ave. in June, but was only recently announced.

The building had been owned by Polman Realty LLC.

The seller’s representative, Lee & Associates, said the friends' group purchased the building support of the school’s college preparatory, healthcare-focused curriculum.

Polman Realty purchased the building in 2013 for $550,000 and renovated the building to improve structural deficiencies and change it from a factory to more of a school.

Baystate Academy Charter, which teaches children in grades 6-12, will lease the building from the Friends group, according to an agreement with MassDevelopment.

The charter school was established in 2013 through a partnership with Baystate Health.

The school is in the old MeadWestVaco, which closed two envelope-making plants in Springfield in 2002 and moved operations to Enfield.
