Man Killed In Two-Vehicle Springfield Crash A man has died after a crash involving another car in Western Mass. At around 2:50 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 14, officers were called to the 900 block of Boston Road for the crash involving a car and motorcycle, according to Springfield Police spokesman Ryan Walsh. The man driving the motorcycle was taken to Baystate Health where he died from his injuries, Walsh said. Walsh said a preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle rider was driving at a high rate of speed. The driver of the car remained at the scene.

Woman Dies Hours After Being Shot In Springfield, Police Say A woman has died hours after being found shot on street in the region. The unidentified Massachusetts woman was found shot in Hampden County around 2:50 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11 on Vermont Street in Springfield. Baystate Plans To Close Emergency And Cancer Care Satelite Facility By 2023 Baystate Health has plans to close one of its satellite emergency medical and cancer care facilities within the next two years. On Tuesday, Jan. 26, in a letter to the community, Baystate President Mark A. Keroack outlined the state and financial health of one of its satellite facilities in Western Massachusetts. The facility slated to be closed is the more than 100-year-old Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center in Ware, which provides emergency as well as cancer care and other services. Friends of Baystate Academy Charter Public School in Springfield purchased the school’s building at 2001 Roosevelt Ave. in June, but was only recently announced. The building had been owned by Polman Realty LLC. New Mental Health Hospital Coming To Pioneer Valley Baystate Health and Kindred Behavioral Health are teaming up to launch a 120-bed, $43 million mental health hospital, possibly in Holyoke. Springfield-based Baystate is eyeing the former home of the Holyoke Geriatric Authority on Lower Westfield Road as the possible site for the standalone behavioral health hospital, according to MassLive. The new hospital would employ 220 people and have a pediatric unit - a rarity for Massachusetts. Baystate will pay for $5 million of the construction with Kindred picking up the rest.
