Newton Duplex Fire Kills 1; 3 Others Escape Burning Home A man was killed after a fire tore through a duplex in Newton on Sunday morning, March 24, authorities said.  Firefighters were called to the blaze at 1243 Walnut St. around 8:30 a.m. and saw flames pouring through the first-floor windows, the State Fire Marshal's Office said.  Firefighters pushed their way inside and found a man lying on the floor and pulled him out of the blaze, authorities said. Woman Saved After Icy Plunge Off Boston Bridge: Police A woman who jumped off a bridge with the intent to end her life was brought to safety by firefighters and state police marine units, officials say.  Police and fire departments were notified that a woman was in the ocean near North Washington Street Bridge on Tuesday, Feb. 7 around 9:45 p.m., according to Massachusetts State Police.
