An investigation into the murder of Donnell Henry Hawkins in La Plata on Saturday, Dec. 31 led to the arrest of local resident Cordell Earl Spicer, 26, who was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, the Charles County Sheriff's Office announced over the holiday weekend. Police have identified the elderly man who was killed after his vehicle was struck and went airborne near La Plata, reports WTOP. George Bernard Thomas Jr., 88, was struck by a Virginia woman in a Chevrolet who failed to yield to oncoming traffic while making a turn at the intersection of Crain Highway and Turkey Hill Road, around 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, the outlet said citing state police.
