'Aviation Operations' Taking Place In Putnam, Police Say: Here's Why Authorities in the Hudson Valley are advising residents not to worry about what's in the sky above popular recreational trails.  In an announcement on social media on Thursday, Dec. 26, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said they are "aware of aviation operations" near the county's bike paths.  Authorities added that the operations are being carried out to help maintain the paths. Route 6 Erratic Driver Was DWI In Yorkstown, Authorities Say A 31-year-old man faces drunk driving charges after he was allegedly seen driving erratically on a busy Northern Westchester road, police said.  Peekskill resident Oscar Morocho Villa was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 18 following a traffic stop on Route 6 in Yorktown, Yorktown Police announced on Tuesday, Dec. 24. Only A Drill: 'Active Threat' Training Held At Iona University In New Rochelle With many students home for the holidays, several emergency agencies from across Westchester were able to hold active threat training on a university campus in the county.  The training exercise was held at New Rochelle's Iona University on Monday, Dec. 23, according to the Yonkers Police Department.  The "realistic simulation" allowed officers to "hone their skills and practice interagency coordination in a critical incident," the department said on social media. The department also posted photos from the exercise taken inside university classrooms.

Broken Pipe Prompts Emergency Response At Hospital In Yonkers Firefighters responded to a Westchester hospital after a broken pipe set off an alarm.  The incident happened on Monday, Dec. 23 at around 1 p.m., when a broken water pipe in the basement of St. John's Riverside Hospital in Yonkers set off a fire alarm, according to Dobbs Ferry Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Joseph Giuliano. Work Begins On 12-Story Residential, Retail Building In Port Chester Construction has begun on a 12-story building that will bring more homes and retail space to a Westchester village.  A groundbreaking ceremony was held for 146 Westchester Avenue in Port Chester on Tuesday, Dec. 17, according to developers.  Developers added that the planned development will contain 223 residential units as well as ground-level retail space.  Construction is expected to be finished by Q4 of 2026.
