New Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued: 70 MPH Winds, Frequent Lightning Possible A new severe thunderstorm watch is in effect across parts of the Northeast as another round of potentially dangerous storms develops. The National Weather Service issued the watch Saturday, Aug. 8, for portions of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut,  Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. It remains in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday.
