'The Money Is Ready': Phone Scammer Steals Over $6K From CT Victim, Police Say
An elaborate phone scam duped a Connecticut victim into forking over more than $6,000 and almost cost them thousands more, police said.
Waldy Santiago, age 25, of Providence, Rhode Island, turned himself in at a State Police facility in Westbrook in Middlesex County on Wednesday, Oct. 25, in connection with the alleged scheme, according to Connecticut State Police.
Investigators were initially contacted by a Middlesex County resident in Killingworth on Friday, Aug. 25, reporting an elderly scam.

Trio Caught Breaking Into Cars In Fairfield County, Police Say
Three Connecticut teenagers have been charged for allegedly breaking into vehicles in the parking lot of a Fairfield County apartment complex.
The three were arrested in Trumbull on Wednesday, Sept. 7, following the incident at the Ten Trumbull Apartments.
The New Haven County teens, identified as David Mitchell, age 18, a 17-year-old, and a 16-year-old, all of Meriden, were arrested around 3 a.m. after police were called to 100 Oakview Drive to investigate a report of three people that were dressed in black and entering vehicles in the parking lot, said Lt. Hudson Valley Man Accused Of Stealing $1K Worth Of Items From Lowe's Store
A Hudson Valley man was arrested and accused of stealing merchandise worth $1,000 from a Connecticut store more than seven years ago.
That merchandise was allegedly stolen from Lowe's, located in New Haven County at 311 Old Gate Lane in Milford, in October of 2014, the Milford Police Department said.
Dutchess County resident Michael Horowitz, age 30, of Poughkeepsie, was arrested on Friday, March 18, in the incident, police said.
He was charged with fifth-degree larceny and fifth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, authorities said.
