A donut shop chain known for wild concoctions like maple bacon and piña colada is coming to Connecticut. Duck Donuts is planning to open a location at 350 Boston Post Road in Orange, according to the company's website. The shop will replace the former Smoothie King location in the Route 1 shopping plaza and is expected to open sometime in March. Tropical System In Atlantic Could Become Named Storm, Affect East Coast: What To Know Now
A new tropical rainstorm in the Atlantic may strengthen into a named storm and affect parts of the East Coast. According to the National Hurricane Center, a tropical depression could form late this week while the system is near the Greater Antilles or the Bahamas. (See the first image above.) Coworkers and friends of the 44-year-old Massachusetts woman who was killed by a shark while on vacation in the Bahamas say they are heartbroken and shocked by her death. Lauren Van Wart, of Lowell, located northwest of Boston, was attacked by a shark on Monday, Dec. 4, about a mile from Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort while she was paddleboarding with a relative, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said. Friends and family members of a former Connecticut police officer are continuing their search for the missing man who disappeared while free-diving in the Bahamas. A well-known man from Fairfield County who owned a beloved store in Northern Westchester has died. Stamford resident Joseph DiPietro, Sr. died on Friday, Feb. 10 at the age of 90, according to his obituary. DiPietro, who lived an "extraordinary life," was the owner of Chubby's Hardware in Pound Ridge located at 68 Westchester Ave., which was named after his childhood nickname, his obituary said. CT Man Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash, Police Say
A 21-year-old Connecticut man and University of New Haven student was killed in a crash after the vehicle he was riding in struck a tree, police said. The crash took place in New Haven around 3:30 a.m., Saturday, April 9 on Congress Avenue. Responding officers located a black Chevrolet Cruz that had struck a tree. Trailblazing, Sidney Poitier, the first Black actor to win an Oscar, a longtime New York resident has died. Bahamian Prime Minister Phillip Davis made the announcement that Poitier died on Thursday, Jan. 8 at the age of 94.
