Eleven people from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Florida have been charged in what federal prosecutors described as a years-long multimillion-dollar scheme involving fraudulent temporary license plates used to evade tolls, parking tickets, and vehicle registration fees.
The defendants linked to the scheme were arrested between Tuesday, May 19 and Wednesday, May 20, the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York announced on Wednesday.

A Long Island man stabbed his mother more than 40 times on Mother’s Day before police shot and killed him while responding to the scene, authorities said.
Steven Eastwood, 28, was identified Monday, May 11, as the suspect in the attack at a home in Northampton, the Southampton Town Police Department said.
Eastwood’s mother first called 911 just before 2:45 p.m. Sunday, May 10 to report her son was being drunk and violent in their home on Topping Drive, police said.

A New England man is accused of posing as a teenager online to sexually exploit a Pennsylvania girl, police announced on Friday, April 24.
John Pulk, 33, of Maine, turned himself in following the investigation, according to the police.

A Connecticut woman has been found guilty in a violent home invasion where she and three others attacked a man and woman in front of the victim’s 13-year-old daughter, authorities said.
Tashi Sistrunk, 37, of Bridgeport, was found guilty Thursday, Jan. 29, of home invasion, conspiracy to commit home invasion, second-degree assault, and risk of injury, the state’s attorney’s office said. The attack happened at about 11 a.m. on July 22, 2024, when Sistrunk entered a Bridgeport home and assaulted two adult victims.
