It wasn’t.  Researchers have now traced the quake to a previously unmapped fault in the New Jersey Highlands, one they’ve named the Mountainville Fault. The discovery was detailed in a study published Monday, Aug. 11, in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth.
