Broken Pipe Prompts Emergency Response At Hospital In Yonkers Firefighters responded to a Westchester hospital after a broken pipe set off an alarm.  The incident happened on Monday, Dec. 23 at around 1 p.m., when a broken water pipe in the basement of St. John's Riverside Hospital in Yonkers set off a fire alarm, according to Dobbs Ferry Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Joseph Giuliano. Work Begins On 12-Story Residential, Retail Building In Port Chester Construction has begun on a 12-story building that will bring more homes and retail space to a Westchester village.  A groundbreaking ceremony was held for 146 Westchester Avenue in Port Chester on Tuesday, Dec. 17, according to developers.  Developers added that the planned development will contain 223 residential units as well as ground-level retail space.  Construction is expected to be finished by Q4 of 2026.

Beloved Longtime Somers Firefighter, Veteran Dies: Served Up Until Death A Northern Westchester community is mourning the loss of a decorated firefighter, Navy veteran, and lifelong public servant who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.  Somers resident Walter McDonald died on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at the age of 90, according to his obituary.  Born in Mount Vernon on Feb. 18, 1934, McDonald dedicated much of his life to serving others. Trapped Driver Freed From Car After Crash On Sprain Brook Parkway In Greenville Firefighters had to cut the doors off of a car following a crash on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Westchester. The crash happened on Saturday, Dec. 21 on the northbound Sprain Book Parkway in the Greenville area of Greenburgh near Jackson Avenue, the Hartsdale Fire Department announced.  Following the collision, firefighters extricated a driver from one of the vehicles, cutting doors off to do so.  More information about the crash was not immediately available.
