A former area high school teacher is back in hot water with police after failing to report suspected child abuse, police said.
Jeffrey Giovacchino, 48, a former Oxford High School teacher, was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 9 and charged with failure to report child abuse dating back to an incident approximately two years ago.
Giovacchino was arrested on a warrant at approximately 1 p.m., police said, following an investigation into the alleged abuse. According to reports, one of Giovacchino’s former students told him that he had been sexually assaulted at a party, and he failed to report it to authorities.
The incident was reported to Giovacchino while he was still employed as a teacher, making him a mandated reporter and required by law to contact law enforcement regarding any possible sexual abuse.
Following his arrest on the failure to report child abuse charge, Giovacchino was released on $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court later this month to respond to the charge.
Anyone with information regarding the investigation into Giovacchino has been asked to contact police investigators by calling (203) 888-4353.
