Weston Skiers Wrap Successful Seasons

Weston's boys and girls ski teams recently wrapped up successful seasons with strong performances at the State Open championships at Mount Southington.

The girls finished fourth at the State Open and third in Class S. The Trojans were also the South-West Conference runner-up, and went 12-5 overall, 6-3 against Class S teams.

Freshman Shelby Merberg led the team at the State Open with a ninth place finish in the 90-skier field. Bonnie Guthrie (22nd), Ava van Daalen (24th), Kelly Quinn (26th), Caroline Quinn (30th) and Anna Dickstein (40th) rounded out the top six.

Weston's junior varsity girls team went 9-0 in Class S and 16-1 against Open Division teams.

The boys team won the South-West Conference and finished second in Class S. They were seventh place overall and finished with a 10-1 Class S mark and a 19-3 record against Open Division rivals.

Ryan Vogel finished 17th in the State Open out of 120 skiers. Alex Merberg (23rd), Peter Robbins (24th), Kieran Wrynn (43rd), Dave Gardell (48th) and Eric Schanzer (57th) rounded out Weston's top six.
