Private showers, potable water, WiFi access and charging stations are available.

Volunteers Lynn Walkoff and her daughter Scarlett Machson, dressed in Halloween costumes, assisted residents with information on the comfort station.

"We want to give a few smiles on Halloween," Walkoff said. "We have a generator so there's power and water, and we want to give back to the community."

Eileen Rosen, a Birchill Road resident with no power and no generator, was happy for the assistance.

"We have friends in Westport with power and the weather has been good so we haven't suffered," she said. "But whoever doesn't believe in environmental change is naive. It's much worse than we had it before. The motto is to be prepared."
