WESTON, Conn, - Weston First Selectman Gayle Weinstein will issue a proclamation in observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month at Fridays meeting of the Weston Domestic Violence Task Force.
The group will welcome Carrie Bernier, the director of Court and Legal Advocacy for the Domestic Violence Crisis Center of Stamford and Norwalk, who will discuss how the community benefits from its criminal and legal services.
Bernier, a Stamford lawyer who is working with the DVCC to influence changes in how Connecticuts legal system handles domestic violence cases, will discuss workplace issues, such as what responsibilities a supervisor has to victims of domestic violence and other members of the workplace.
Shell also speak about legislative issues, including restraining order changes, new mandatory policies for law enforcement and changes and challenges in the court system.
The meeting takes place in the Weston Town Hall meeting room at 9 a.m. and a continental breakfast will be served.
