Wrong-Way Driver From Trumbull Punches, Kicks Officers After Chase, Crash In Darien: Police

A wrong-way Connecticut driver led police on a brief pursuit before crashing into two other cars, injuring a driver, and then assaulting two officers, police said.

The Fairfield County incident happened at around 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 15, in the town of Wilton.

Wilton Police said Jorge Oliva, age 48, of Trumbull, was seen speeding in a Honda SUV going northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 7 (Danbury Road) near Ridgefield Road close to oncoming traffic.

Officers initiated a pursuit, during which Oliva was allegedly seen throwing a baseball cap out his window. Police eventually terminated the chase.

Several minutes later, Oliva crashed into two other cars near the intersection of Danbury and Olmstead Hill roads, injuring a female driver, police said. The woman was taken by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital.

Following the crash, Oliva physically assaulted two Wilton Police officers, kicking one and punching the other in the nose, according to police. 

He was taken into custody at around 1:50 p.m. after a brief struggle and was taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Oliva is charged with the following:

  • Assault of public safety
  • Interfering with an investigation
  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to stop
  • Littering

He was held on $50,000 bond ahead of his arraignment in Stamford Superior Court.
