Jon Wysocki, a founding member and former drummer of the band Staind died over the weekend at 56. The Massachusetts native was born in Hampden County, where he would later meet the other members of the five-times-platinum group. A Connecticut nurse was sentenced in federal court in Western Massachusetts for tampering with liquid morphine prescribed to a patient. Tolland County resident Danielle Works, 42, of Stafford Springs, was sentenced to 20 months in prison and three years of supervised release on Wednesday, Aug. 18, said US Attorney Nathaniel Mendell for the District of Massachusetts. A national recall has been announced for more than a thousand pounds of a popular beef jerky product that may contain known allergens. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Whip City Jerky, a Westfield, Mass. company, is recalling 1,391 pounds of products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen. Officials said that the jerky contains milk, which is not declared on the product label. The contaminated products were produced between Dec. 18 last year and Jan. 31.
