A Winter Storm Warning took effect at 6 a.m. Saturday and will last until Sunday at 6 a.m.
Light snow Saturday morning will gradually pick up in intensity by afternoon. The heaviest snow was expected Saturday evening. It will change to sleet and freezing rain late.
Snow totals could vary significantly, with coastal Fairfield County expected to get 2 and 4 inches and Northern Fairfield forecast for 4 and 8 inches. Winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts of 35 mph were expected.
Travel conditions will be especially treacherous Saturday evening, with icy conditions expected throughout the region.
After daytime high temperatures of only about 30 on Saturday, temps will graduate rise overnight, with some rain possible before 9 a.m.
Sunday will be partly sunny with a high about 40. Temperatures will drop Monday to a high near the freezing mark under mostly sunny skies.
