Darien Teen Earns Spot In National Geography Bee Finals
Only 54 finalists remain in competition to display their knowledge of the world's geography. A 13-year-old boy from Darien is among the lucky contestants headed to the National Championship at National Geographic Society Headquarters on May 20 through 23 in Washington, D.C. James Leone, a Darien eighth-grader, won the state competition in April to qualify for the national geography bee. The winner receives a $50,000 college scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands. Leone also hopes to travel to Iceland, South Africa, Europe and Australia some day.
