Sinking Boat With 5 Passengers Rescued By Greenwich Police Marine Unit
A boat that was taking on water with five passengers aboard was rescued by a Fairfield County police marine unit. The incident took place in Greenwich near Great Captain Island, on Long Island Sound on Saturday, Aug. 19, when the vessel ran into trouble. Lt. Patrick Smyth of the Greenwich Police said the department's Marine Section 139 located the boat. They deployed dewatering pumps and towed the vessel to Beacon Point Marine to be lifted out of the water. The boat was saved and none of the five onboard were injured, Smyth said. Four In Water Clinging To Sinking Boat On Long Island Sound Rescued
Four men clinging to a partially submerged boat in the Long Island Sound that was spotted by a nearby oyster boat were rescued by a police marine unit in Westport. At approximately 2:30 p.m., Tuesday afternoon, June 18, the Westport Marine Unit responded to a call of four people in the water near Peck’s Ledge Lighthouse. An oyster boat reported the incident to the Norwalk Police Department who in turn, alerted Westport officers, Westport Police said.
