Two CT Residents Test Positive For Dangerous, Rare Tick-Borne Disease
Two people in Connecticut have tested positive for a rare, potentially dangerous tick-borne infection known as the Powassan virus. The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) announced that two people between the ages of 50 and 79 and are from Fairfield and New Haven counties tested positive for the virus earlier this year, representing the first two cases this year. Some communities in Connecticut will receive a financial shot in the arm to help continue the state’s rapid rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine. Gov. Three new West Nile virus cases have been detected by the Connecticut Department of Public Health according to a press release the agency issued on Wednesday, Sept. 9, bringing the state's season total to four human cases. Two of the patients that fell ill in the second week of August, both between the ages of 20 and 39, are recovering in Danbury and Newtown respectively.
