Severe Thunderstorm Watch Now In Effect For Fairfield County
As a potent system with scattered severe storms sweeps through, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has now been issued for much of the region. It's in effect until midnight Sunday, Aug. 13. The main threat is for damaging wind gusts and large hail, the National Weather Service said, adding that isolated tornadoes are possible, mainly north and west of New York City. New System Packed With Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain Could Cause Flooding
A new system taking aim at the region will bring thunderstorms and heavy rain that could cause flooding. Current forecast models project the system will arrive from west to east starting late Thursday morning, Aug. 10. Heavy rain is expected to begin in the New York City area, Hudson Valley, and Capital regions, and western Connecticut around midday Thursday and later in the afternoon in Massachusetts and eastern Connecticut. 19: Summertime Uptick In Cases, Hospitalizations Reported By CDC
A summertime uptick in both COVID-19 hospitalizations and cases is being reported by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). “After roughly six, seven months of steady declines, things are starting to tick back up again,” said CDC’s COVID incident manager Dr. Brendan Jackson, according to a report by NPR. The first hurricane of the 2023 season formed in the Atlantic before quickly being downgraded a short time later. Tropical Storm Don strengthened into a hurricane late Saturday afternoon, July 22 with sustained winds of 75 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Center said. Separate rounds of slow-moving storms with heavy downpours at times will bring a new risk of flash flooding to the area into early next week. A line of thunderstorms, some severe, is sweeping through the region from west to east. Storm activity first began in areas west of the Hudson River in the early afternoon on Friday, July 7.
