Ouch, Swimmer's Itch Reported At Greenwich Beaches
If you've been swimming at a Greenwich beach and are itching all over don't worry, it's an allergic reaction to a parasite from snails. On Monday, July 31, the Greenwich Department of Health announced that they have been informed of incidents involving swimmers’ itch at several Greenwich beaches. Swimmer’s Itch, also called cercarial dermatitis, appears as a skin rash caused by an allergic reaction to microscopic parasites that are released from snails into fresh and salt water, Michael Long, of the Greenwich Health Department said.
