Skyliners Skating Team Steps Off Season in Synch

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — The Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team will kick off its season at an annual pep rally Saturday, Nov. 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Terry Conners Rink in Stamford. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.

The pep rally serves as the competitive season's dress rehearsal and marks the first public performances of all eight lines of the Skyliners Team. The Skyliners are especially excited to debut its first-ever Senior Line, as well as performances from its defending national champion Junior and Juvenile lines. In addition, the Novice and Intermediate lines will be looking to build on their strong medal winning performances at Nationals last March.

Synchronized skating, originally called precision skating, consists of 12 to 20 athletes skating on ice at one time and moving as one flowing unit at high speeds. For a synchronized team to skate in unison, individuals must be competent at a variety of skating skills, including freestyle elements, speed, footwork and ice presence. International synchronized skating competitions are held at the novice, junior and senior levels, with senior being the most elite.

The Skyliners is one of the top synchronized skating organizations in the country with 164 girls across eight lines, with skaters ranging in age from 6 to 22. The Skyliners qualifying lines, Senior, Junior, Novice, Intermediate and Juvenile, represent the Skating Club of New York. The Prepreliminary, Prejuvenile and Preliminary lines represent Springdale Figure Skating Club in Stamford. All Skyliners teams compete in U.S. Figure Skating Association sanctioned competitions.
