Runners Have Many Choices This Weekend

Area runners have a full slate of racing choices this weekend, but will only be able to pick two out of three.

Friday night the Trumbull Sunset Run, a 5K at Twin Brooks Park, begins at 6:45. The race features a lakeside finish, and produced the fastest 5K run in the state in 2003. Details are available at the race website.

The following morning provides a choice of two seaside events, both the fourth leg of two venerable summer racing series.

The 48th annual Westport Road Runners Summer Series goes up in distance to 4.1 miles in a run starting from Compo Beach at 8 a.m. At the same time, the Lightfoot series offers a run of more than twice the distance, nine miles, from Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. The Lightfoot event features a two-loop course and also serves as a fundraiser for the Courage to Speak Foundation, a drug education organization.

Details on both events, including course maps and registration information, is available online at the Road Runners website or the Lightfoot Running Club website.
