Today is the opening day of the high school sports season. Teams have been running, hitting, throwing and catching over the past few weeks in anticipation of the new season. Spring is perhaps the busiest season on the sports calendar, with teams taking the field in baseball, softball, lacrosse, track and field and tennis.
Brien McMahons baseball team, which was the Class LL runner-up in 2009, hosts Bunnell tonight at 7 p.m. in its season-opener. Norwalks baseball team travels to Greenwich for a 4 p.m. contest. The Senators and the Bears figure to be among the teams battling for playoff berths in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference.
In softball, Norwalk travels to New Fairfield for a 4 p.m. game and McMahon hosts Bridgeport Central at 4 p.m. Click on the school for Norwalks and McMahons contests this week.
