Darien punched its ticket to the FCIAC championship game Saturday, pulling away for a victory over Norwalk. The Blue Wave held only a 7-6 lead going into the half, but the heralded offense found its stride in the final 24 minutes. On Darien's first possession of the second half, quarterback Chris Allam connected with Clay Barker for a 32-yard touchdown. Darien never looked back and came away with a 38-14 victory. Meanwhile, defending FCIAC champion Staples was denied the chance to repeat as Trumbull held it off in the closing seconds. Thanks to a point tiebreaker, the Eagles snatched away the championship game berth from Staples.
The FCIAC football championship will be held at Trumbull High School, giving the Eagles an unexpected home field advantage. The site of the FCIAC title game is chosen before the participants are determined. Tickets will be sold at the gate for $10 for general admission and $7 for children ages 13 and younger. Tickets will also be available at Darien High School for the reduced $7 price starting Monday.
