Daddy's Brings Home 3rd Rec League Title

Daddy's Home won its third straight Norwalk Adult Open "C" Basketball League championship Tuesday night, but not without a scare.

The undefeated regular season champs had to overcome a 12-point first quarter deficit to Kings in their faceoff at Ben Franklin Middle School. Daddy’s opened the second quarter on a 10-0 run, sparked by Jarrell Stevens. From there, Daddy's proved why it had not lost all season, bringing home the rec league championship, 82-63.

"First half we came out a little shaky. We were a little surprised how aggressive they came out," Stevens said. "But we were able to turn it around to bring home the undefeated season. Hopefully next year we'll be back for more."

Kings surprised Daddy's Home with a fast-paced attack, hoping to build an early and insurmountable lead. Daddy's proved that no lead was too much for it to overcome as it simply wore out Kings for the rest of the game.

Daddy's finally tied the game on an emphatic slam dunk by Stevens, giving the team the emotional momentum to tip the scales. Daddy's began to pull away in the second half, outscoring Kings 49-31 in the final two quarters.

Stevens led all scorers with 25 points. Tom Liberatore added 17 points while being the emotional leader of the team, pumping his Daddy's Home teammates up throughout the game. Joe Baker had 12 points and Donyae Brown contributed 11 points.

Nick Reiph led Kings with 16 points, while Dave Miles added 13 and Terrell Abraham contributed 12.

Daddy's Home finishes its undefeated season at 12-0. Kings finishes with a 5-7 record.
