NY Times: Number Of Kids Diagnosed With A.D.H.D. Climbs

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The number of high school boys, and children over all, who have been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in the United States have risen dramatically since 2007, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as reported in The New York Times.

In the new study by federal agency, 6.4 million children ages 4 through 17 had been diagnosed with A.D.H.D. at some point in their lives, according the Times, up 16 percent since 2007 and up 53 percent since 2003.

“Those are astronomical numbers. I’m floored,” Dr. William Graf, a pediatric neurologist in New Haven and a professor at the Yale School of Medicine, was quoted. “Mild symptoms are being diagnosed so readily, which goes well beyond the disorder and beyond the zone of ambiguity to pure enhancement of children who are otherwise healthy.”
