IT Specialist Processes New Career in Real Estate

There is something surprisingly analytical about Greenwich native Celia Fernandez. Sitting inside the offices of Anderson Associates, the newest agent on the team shows off her technical side.

“The system lifecycle of new technology can be grueling, as can be the process of getting from an accepted offer to closing,” Fernandez says at one point, talking about launching products and how that translates to selling real estate. “Process” is a term that pops up regularly in her conversation.

The slide into talk about processes and functions is a natural transition for Fernandez, whose previous career was in information technology. She worked with mainframes and integrated systems for clients as large as Ford.

When her third child was born, Fernandez stepped back from her career to raise her family. Now that the kids are a little older, she is ready to work again. This time, however, she’s trying her hand at real estate. It’s the fulfillment of a dream for the lifelong Greenwich resident. “I’m the girl who goes through the real estate section to see all of the houses, and I’ve probably done that since I was 15. So it is something I have always wanted to do. Now that the kids are launched, it’s the right time to do it full time instead of haphazardly,” Fernandez said.

Schools are often a driving factor in home purchases for families, and that is an area that Fernandez knows. Through her children, Fernandez became involved in the Greenwich school’s parent teacher organizations, including the PTA council.

Her lifelong residency also keeps Fernandez aware of all the amenities Greenwich offers. She can tell clients not just where the best beaches are, but also how to rent art from the library. For her approach to real estate, Fernandez has a methodology for that. “I focus on the buyer and the buyer’s needs, not the inventory,” she said. Smiling, she adds lightheartedly, “It’s a process.”
