Bad Experience Teaches Greenwich Agent a Lesson

Danielle Claroni's first brush with real estate was a home buyer's nightmare. She and her husband, Michael, were shopping for their first home and put themselves in the hands of an experienced agent. She sold them a fixer-upper on the state line and told them it was in Greenwich. The agent's attorney handled the closing and never told them the house was in Port Chester. "She saw us coming a million miles away," says Danielle, who is now a real estate agent with New England Land Co. in Greenwich. "She took advantage of us to sell us a white elephant and basically ripped us off."

Before going into real estate, Danielle had worked in sales at her husband's electronic business. But real estate was always on her mind. "When clients came into the office and told me they were buying a house, I always used to tell them to make sure they got a building inspection," she says with a laugh.

Fourteen years ago, Danielle decided it was time to get into real estate. For her, it's important that her clients have a good experience. "I never want anyone else to go through what I had happen to me," she says.

New England Land Co. sells residential and commercial real estate, and Danielle focuses mostly on residential sales in Greenwich and northern Westchester. "I love to ride, so I know all the backcountry areas," she says.

The Claronis have had roots in Greenwich for more than 30 years though Danielle spent her childhood in Pakistan, Malaysia, Lebanon and Mexico, to name just a few of the countries she called home. At one point she spoke seven languages, but she says she's down to just English, Italian, French, Spanish and a little Portuguese now.

These days, Danielle and Michael's travels often take them to the coast of Mexico. "We both love deep sea fishing," she says. "That reminds me — I want to book us a trip soon."
