Specific details of the incident had not been released as of 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, but Police Chief Thomas Kulhawik said in a statement that Cerulli’s body was found at about 6:15 p.m. in his single-family home at Blackstone Drive and Sylvester Court.
Cerulli, 41, is survived by his wife, Jennifer. He was hired Feb. 7, 2011.
“There is no evidence of foul play,” Kulhawik said in a statement, adding that the department is “extremely saddened” by Cerulli’s untimely death. “Detectives are conducting a thorough investigation. No further information will be released concerning the manner and cause of death at this time.”
The street was blocked off by police cruisers at all access points, and investigators were expected to be at the scene throughout the night, according to police. Kulhawik was expected to release more information Wednesday morning.
A Norwalk police chaplain arrived at about 9 p.m.
“We are saddened to lose a member of our family so suddenly and tragically,” said Kulhawik. “We offer our deepest condolences to his wife and family. We ask that the privacy of the family be respected at this very difficult time.”
