Norwalk Cops: Man Rear-Ends Police Car, Faces DUI Charge

NORWALK, Conn. – A 38-year-old Norwalk man was arrested on a warrant early Thursday in connection with a car accident in which he plowed into the back of a police cruiser while drunk, according to Norwalk police.

Christopher McGee, of Wolfpit Avenue, was arrested on the warrant at his home Thursday morning on charges of driving under the influence and reckless driving in connection with the June 8 incident, police said.

Officer John Haggerty had stopped a car on West Avenue near the I-95 ramps June 8 when McGee, driving a Ford Explorer, rear-ended the police cruiser, which then hit the vehicle in front of it, police said.

McGee and an unnamed female passenger were taken to Norwalk Hospital, where they were treated released, police said. The occupants of the car hit by the police cruiser did not suffer injuries.

All three vehicles sustained damage in the crash, police said.

Police obtained a warrant for McGee’s blood alcohol concentration from the hospital, which came back at 0.2, which is more than twice the legal limit, police said.

McGee was charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving. He was released Thursday after posting $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on July 18.
