Tornado Warning Issued for Fairfield County

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — A severe thunderstorm moving through the region has forced the National Weather Service to issue a tornado warning for Fairfield County until 7 p.m., Friday.

A severe storm was moving through Westchester County, N.Y., that meteorologists determined was capable of producing a tornado. A "warning" means strong rotation has been detected in the storm and that a tornado is already on the ground or is expected to develop.

"Other locations included in the warning include but are not limited to White Plains, Scarsdale, Harrison, Port Chester, Rye, Stamford and Darien," the warning says.

The safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement or a room in the lowest floor of a home in an interior hallway or a room without windows, the National Weather Service says.
