Stamford Native Eleanor Bowlby, Former Bookkeeper

Eleanor Janet (Karl) Bowlby died May 12 after a battle with lung cancer. The 87-year-old Danbury resident was born in Stamford and later lived in Norwalk.

After graduating from Stamford High School in 1942, she went on to work as a bookkeeper for various companies, including the Stamford Yacht Club, Machlett Laboratories and Pitney Bowes. She was also involved in the community, helping such organizations as the Norwalk Women’s Club, the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts in Stamford, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford.

Bowlby is survived by her husband of 65 years, Floyd E. “Bud” Bowlby; her two sons, Donald F. Bowlby and wife Susan of West Chester, Pa., and Charles F. Bowlby of Galloway, N.J.; her daughter, Doris E. Bowlby of Danbury; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Frederick E. Karl, and her sister, Doris M. Karl.

The funeral was held Tuesday morning at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury and was burial at Fairfield Memorial Park in Stamford on Tuesday afternoon. Donations can be made in Bowlby’s memory to the Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 405 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810.
