Connecticut Ranks Among Most Taxing States

It may not come as a surprise, but Connecticut is among the most taxing states for people to live and retire in, an article from Bloomberg reveals.

Connecticut, Bloomberg reports, collects the third-highest property taxes per capita at $2,381. It's also one of 14 states to tax Social Security income. Residents pay 5 percent in income taxes and since July, 6.35 percent in sales taxes. An additional 3 percentage-point tax was placed on luxury items, such as cars and boats.

There's also a 7.2 percent to 16 percent inheritance tax, with a $2 million exemption, Bloomberg reports.

These high taxes are paired with the nation's highest income per capita — $56,001 per person in 2010, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported.
