Bill Richard, Father Of 8-Year-Old Bombing Victim, Makes Statement

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The father of Martin Richard, the 8-year-old Dorchester, Mass. boy who died Monday in the Boston Marathon bombings, released a statement Tuesday afternoon thanking family and friends for their support during this difficult time.

The Monday bombings at the Boston Marathon were detonated from pressure cookers carried to the scene in backpacks, according to NBC News.

“My dear son Martin has died from injuries sustained in the attack in Boston,” said Bill Richard. “My wife and daughter are both recovering from serious injuries. We thank our family and friends, those we know and those we have never met, for their thoughts and prayers. I ask that you continue to pray for my family as we remember Martin. We also ask for your patience and for privacy as we work to simultaneously grieve and recover. Thank you.”

Three people died in the blasts, and more than 170 people have been treated in Boston-area hospitals for injuries, 17 considered serious.

NBC News reported that the bombs were placed inside pressure cookers, carried to the scene in backpacks and set off with times.
