Watershed Blazes a Trail Selling Online

The Norwalk River Watershed Association for the first time is making available for purchase on its website David Park's book, "Kayaking in and around the Norwalk Islands," as well as hiking trail maps that cover the entire watershed region, including Norwalk, Weston, Wilton, Ridgefield and Redding.

Besides being an avid kayaker and association board member, Park grew up in Weston and now lives in Norwalk. In 2009, he wrote the guidebook, which includes color photos, information about each island, safety guidelines and other information useful to anyone interested in kayaking to and around the islands.

The maps chart existing and proposed trails going from Norwalk's Calf Pasture Beach all the way up Route 7 to Danbury, covering the entire watershed. The association produced the maps and with the help of a grant received from the Norwalk outlet of REI, the outdoor gear and apparel store, was able to print the maps.

The association's mission is to improve the quality of water and life within the watershed by fostering research, education, action and cooperation with people and groups in the area.

The book is being sold for $10 and 40 percent of the proceeds will be given back to the NRWA. The maps can be bought for $5 for the paper version or $8 for the water-resistant outdoor version, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go back to the NRWA.

Do you hike or kayak in the Norwalk River Watershed area? If so, send me your photos at tbuzzeo@mainstreetconnect.us and I will put them up on TheDailyWilton.com and our other websites.
