NORWALK, Conn. Santa Claus went straight from New Canaan to Norwalk for the 20th annual Christmas party for families at the George Washington Carver Center on Saturday, arranged by St. Luke's School of New Canaan.
"It's an annual holiday touchpoint for the New Canaan and Norwalk communities," said Kate Parker-Burgard, director of character education at St. Luke's School. "This event sets the tone for the season for everyone involved."
The school's ninth-grade class conducted the gift drive for the party and the 11th-grade class had the privilege of organizing the party.
"It's a celebration for everyone," says Novelette Peterkin, Carver's executive director. "That the St. Luke's School students organize everything, including Santa, face painting and games with prizes, let alone the gifts at the conclusion of the evening, makes this party especially fun for the Carver kids. St. Luke's participates in the life of the Carver community in many ways throughout the year, but this event is their crowning achievement."
