GREENWICH, Conn. As a graphic artist, I was in the middle of a paste-up job in my office at Penny Press in Norwalk.
My co-worker, Russ Volkers, stuck his head into my cubicle and told me that a plane had hit one of the twin towers in Manhattan. In disbelief, I turned on my radio and heard that the other tower was hit, also, and so was the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
With all of the surveillance available at both sites, the first question that came to my mind was the same question I had asked as a young boy when the Empire State Building was hit by an aircraft: How could this happen? I was astounded, infuriated and frightened. Our little world would never be quite the same.
