If you love looking over other peoples' fences, don't miss this opportunity to join members of The Garden Conservancy in viewing two stunning private gardens located on the Connecticut/Westchester border on Sunday, Sept. 11.
The White Garden in Lewisboro, N.Y., open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., was designed by Patrick Chassé, and completed in 1999. The gardens, which surround a Greek Revival-style home, include classic features: a nymphaeum, pergola garden, a labyrinth and theater court, as well as hidden gardens. Sculptures dot the landscape and swans guard the Temple of Apollo on an island in the main pond. The head gardener, Eric Schmidt, will be there to field questions.
The garden in Waccabuc, N.Y. surrounds a 19th century farm. Here you'll find a walled garden, perennial beds, specimen trees, a vineyard that produces red and white wines, an apple orchard, vegetable gardens and a pond ringed by a meadow.
The Garden Conservancy Center, founded in 1989, is an organization dedicated to preserving exceptional American gardens for the enjoyment and education of the public.
