Norwalk Carjacker Who Drove Off With Victim Before They Escaped Busted: Police

A man accused of carjacking a Connecticut couple — driving off with one of the victims still inside — was captured earlier this week, police said.

Michael Maldonado, 27, of Norwalk, was arrested Thursday, March 6, and charged with carjacking, unlawful restraint, criminal mischief, motor vehicle theft, and violating a protective order, police said.

The victims told police they were sitting in a car on Burwell Street in Norwalk on Nov. 17, 2024, when a man approached and smashed the window. One victim jumped out, but the other remained in the backseat as the suspect drove away, authorities said.

When the thief stopped, the victim jumped out and ran, Norwalk police said.

Maldonado was held on $100,000 bail, police said.
