Mix Seasons for Labor Day Style

Labor Day weekend, fashion’s official harbinger of autumn trends, the weekend when the inevitability of teeny-weenie bikinis ceding the stage to tweeds, is fast upon us.

What will you wear?

Chances are, you’re ready to don your prêt-a-porter pieces for fall, but fear looking as though you haven’t checked the weather forecast in at least eight months. The best part about transition dressing is pairing the otherwise unmarriarable pieces together, resulting in looks only wearable for a precious few weeks out of the year.

That ethereal, bohemian ivory maxi dress you haven’t worn out yet? Take it for another spin over the long holiday, but pair it with your new Frye motorcycle boots. Add some heavy metal accessories to your last weekend of summer lovin’; the Fallon double chain bracelet pictured above is a mixed metal must.

Or throw on an embellished parka—one with darts and tulle like this from Red Valentino—over your denim shorts and white button down to keep the chill at bay during your end-of-the-summer evening clambake.

Whatever your venue, a seasonal transition holiday like Labor Day is the perfect excuse for a May-December romance in your wardrobe.
