Kids Welcome at Chloe's Closet

Fairfield County boasts some of the nation’s best-dressed kids. So, where do savvy parents shop for their mini-mavens? For the past two years they’ve been heading to Chloe’s Closet.

Proprietor Amy DeAngelis and her father and business partner, J. Thomas Pleva, opened the cozy shop in Heritage Square in downtown Fairfield in 2008. “We’re a unique boutique that’s fun, fabulous, and funky,” Amy says. The shop certainly offers the biggest brands in kids’ fashion --Tea, Flowers by Zoe, Ragdoll and Rockets, just to name a few -- and outfits boys and girls from baby to pre-teen. But the unique thing about Chloe’s Closet doesn’t come with a price tag.

“We want it to be a comfortable place for parents and grandparents to shop, so we’ve created a kid-friendly environment. The more kids the better,” she says. “I have two children myself -- AJ and Chloe. I tried to make my store a place where I would want to shop.” To that end, she’s incorporated a play area, television and balloons to occupy the kids so moms can shop a little more leisurely.

“I’ve been in retail for 17 years, mostly managing other people’s boutiques. I always knew I could do this on my own.” She was right. Apart from supervising the store and small staff, Amy attends all the shows and does all the buying.

Her location is no accident, either. “I love Fairfield,” she says. “There’s so much going on. It really is a wonderful place to be a business-owner. And when I’m not working, we like to take the kids to the new Colony Pizza and then maybe to Sweet Rexie’s for a treat.”

The real treat, though, is a trip to Chloe’s Closet. Bring the kids. They’re most welcome.

Find Chloe’s Closet tucked into the corner of Heritage Square plaza, at 1700 Post Road, in Fairfield, or call them at (203) 292-5388.
